"Alien Resurrection" (1997), also known as "Alien 4," is a science fiction horror film directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet. Set 200 years after the events of "Alien 3," the film follows a cloned Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver), who is brought back to life with alien DNA mixed into her genes. Aboard a military spaceship, scientists are breeding xenomorphs for study, but chaos ensues when the creatures escape. Ripley, along with a group of mercenaries, must battle the aliens and prevent them from reaching Earth. The screenplay is by Joss Whedon.
The film takes place in 2381, two centuries after Ripley's death on Fiorina 161 in "Alien 3" (2179). The United Systems Military clones her from blood samples taken before her death in order to recover the Queen embryo she was carrying. No other Alien film is set later, and of all the Alien and Predator films only "Predator: Badlands" takes place after it.
Two centuries after her death, a powerful human/alien hybrid clone of Ellen Ripley aids a crew of space pirates in stopping the aliens from reaching Earth.
