Alien is a movie released in 1979. Its story takes place in 2122, 18 years after Alien: Covenant (2104) and 20 years before Alien: Romulus (2142). In the Alien movies timeline, it comes after Alien: Earth (2120) and before Alien: Ore (around 2122).
No year is given in the film. The date comes from later official material: the Aliens: Colonial Marines Technical Manual places the Nostromo's landing on LV-426 on June 3, 2122.

The creature was designed by H.R. Giger. Sigourney Weaver stars as Ellen Ripley, the ship's warrant officer. The film started the Alien franchise.
The story takes place in 2122. It comes after "Prometheus" (2093) and "Alien: Covenant" (2104), and two years after the series "Alien: Earth" (2120). At the end, Ripley escapes in a shuttle that drifts for 57 years before she is found at the start of "Aliens" (2179).
