A rogue Predator clan, the Killers, attacks a human mining colony with Aliens bred and controlled as weapons. The Colonial Marines ask Machiko Noguchi, the only human known to have lived among the hunters, for help. She agrees to take a Marine task force to Ryushi and propose an alliance to her old clan. Neither side understands the other, and every gesture can be taken as a challenge. The allies then head for Caparis VII, a former colony world held by the Killers.
