The computer of the commercial starship Snark wakes Captain Chaz Standard and his crew of five. A transmission of alien origin is coming from a nearby planetoid, and Standard decides to answer what may be a distress call.
Near the landing site lies a derelict ship with the petrified body of a giant alien inside. Further away stands a pyramid. Back aboard the Snark, First Officer Martine Roby has the computer translate the message. It was never a call for help, but a warning.
On its way back to Earth, the starship Snark picks up an alien transmission. The crew lands on a desolate planetoid and finds a derelict spacecraft and a pyramid of unknown origin.
