XENOMORPH TIMELINE
"Alien: The Illustrated Story" is a 64-page graphic novel published by Heavy Metal in June 1979, the year of the film's release. Written by Archie Goodwin from Dan O'Bannon's screenplay and drawn by Walt Simonson, it was the first Alien comic. It has no link to the later Dark Horse line.
The towing ship Nostromo is heading back to Earth when its computer wakes the crew. A signal is coming from a desolate planetoid. Three of them go out to look and find a derelict ship. Kane comes back with a creature fixed to his face, and the crew soon has a killer loose in the corridors. The book keeps several scenes cut from the film, such as Dallas questioning Ash after Kane's funeral.
It was the first graphic novel to appear on the New York Times best-seller list. Titan reissued it in 2012, along with an oversized Original Art Edition in black and white.
The crew of the Nostromo answers a signal from a dead planetoid and brings something back on board. Archie Goodwin and Walt Simonson's adaptation of the 1979 film, published the same summer.
